Nightguards
If your teeth incur unexplained wear, cracks, chips, or damage, you may suffer from bruxism, commonly called teeth grinding. Bruxism involves clenching and grinding teeth, and it often occurs while a patient sleeps. As your general dentist, Dr. Courtney will identify tooth damage at your initial assessment. If the dentist believes you may be a bruxer, she'll recommend a custom-fitted mouthguard to alleviate the problem. Bruxism is sometimes caused by neuromuscular or TMJ issues.
If left untreated, bruxism can cause:
- Chronic headaches and migraines
- Tooth wear, chips, cracks, or breaks
- TMJ disorder
